William Augustus Sillince was an English artist. Between 1928 and 1936 he worked as an advertising artist, turning freelance he began to contribute regularly to Punch.
He became the magazine’s Art Editor in 1937 and retained that position until the early 1950’s. He continued to contribute to Punch until his death.
He was elected to associate membership of the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolour in 1949 and became a full member nine years later. He was also elected to the Royal Society of British Artists (1949). His work is represented in collections of the British Museum, Imperial War Museum, National Gallery of New Zealand, and Sunderland, Worthing and Hull Art Galleries.
