Pansy bouquet - Randall Lake - Framed Print - 16"H x 12"W

Randall Lake is an American Artist. The most popular subjects of his paintings are teacups, dinghies, florals, and portraits.

He was initially taught in Switzerland. He always enjoyed drawing as a pastime, but his Swiss art teacher’s praise made him aware of his talents and abilities for the first time.

When he graduated from college, he wanted to concentrate on art so he left for Paris and applied for a studio scholarship, and he moved into a studio in the Cité Internationale des Arts.

He moved back to the States where he applied to the University of Utah graduate program to earn a Master’s in Fine Arts, with an emphasis on portraiture.

After graduating with an MFA, Randall began his career as a full-time artist, painting philanthropists and politicians, flowers and teacups, landscapes and seascapes.

Interesting Fact:

His Parisian dealer said Randall had two problems; he is American and that he is alive.

The garden pansy is a type of large-flowered hybrid plant cultivated as a garden flower. It is derived from several species in the section Melanium of the genus Viola, particularly Viola tricolor, a wildflower of Europe and western Asia known as heartsease.

The name "pansy" is derived from the French word pensée, "thought", and was imported into Late Middle English as a name of Viola, as the flower was regarded as a symbol of remembrance.

The name "heart’s-ease" came from St. Euphrasia, whose name in Greek signifies cheerfulness of mind. The woman, who refused marriage and took the veil, was considered a pattern of humility, hence the name "humble violet".
