Lake of Brienz - Joseph Mallord William Turner - Framed Print - 12"H x 16"W

Joseph Mallord William Turner, was an English Romanticist landscape painter. Turner was considered a controversial figure in his day, but is now regarded as the artist who elevated landscape painting to an eminence rivalling history painting.

Although renowned for his oil paintings, Turner is also one of the greatest masters of British watercolour landscape painting. He is commonly known as "the painter of light" and his work is regarded as a Romantic preface to Impressionism.

Lake Brienz  is a lake north of the Alps, in the Canton of Berne.

It is fed by the upper reaches of the Aar river at its eastern end and by the Lütschine river, flowing from the valleys of Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen, at its south-western corner. It flows out into a further stretch of the Aar river at its western end.

The village of Brienz, from which the lake takes its name, lies to its eastern end

There have been passenger ships on the lake since 1839.
