Robert Étienne Bonfils was a French illustrator, painter and designer.
He enrolled in the École Germain Pilon, the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs and at the École des Beaux Arts.
Bonfils regularly showed at the Salon d'Automne and at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs, then at Tuileries.
Bonfils was among the organisers of the 1925 International Exposition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Arts.
He created theatre sceneries & textile designs, (manufactured by Bianchini.)
He created many illustrations for books and publications, such as the work he did for Francis Jammes' novel Clara d'Ellébeuse.
Bonfils was created Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur, and then Officier, by the French state.
