A daylily is a flowering plant in the genus Hemerocallis. Gardening enthusiasts and professional horticulturalists have long bred daylily species for their attractive flowers. H. aurantiaca is included in the Tasmanian Fire Service's list of low flammability plants, indicating that it is suitable for growing within a building protection zone.

The flowers of Hemerocallis citrina are edible and are used in Chinese cuisine. They are sold in Asian markets as gum jum or golden needles or yellow flower vegetables. They are used in hot and sour soup, daylily soup, Buddha's delight, and moo shu pork.
